Introduction

Cold brew is the easiest method to get right and the easiest to get bland. The secret is a coarse grind, a strong ratio and a proper filter.

Make a 1:8 concentrate, then dilute 1:1 with water or milk over ice.

Brewing steps

  1. 1

    Grind coarse

Grind 100 g of coffee extra coarse.

  2. 2

    Combine and stir

Add coffee to the jar, pour in 800 g cold water and stir until all grounds are wet.

  3. 3

    Steep

Cover and steep 12 hours at room temperature, then move to the fridge for 2–6 more hours.

  4. 4

    Filter twice

Strain through a sieve, then again through a paper filter for a clean, sediment-free concentrate.

  5. 5

    Dilute and serve

Mix concentrate 1:1 with water or milk over ice. Keeps up to 10 days in the fridge.

Troubleshooting

Too weak
Steep longer or use a 1:6 ratio.
Woody or stale
Shorten the steep, and use fresher beans.
